For my essay, my chosen topic is social media and the artist (or musician or craftsperson). Youtube Musicians to be more specific. I want to focus on how social media has helped musicians gain a following. I’m thinking about talking about small Musicians who started out small and grew a following. Peer Review of Essay 2 (Larry)

In your Essay, You have a summary and response. It doesn’t follow the Assignment Guidelines. Reading it, I know where one paragraph ends and another one begins but it does get difficult. I’m not sure in what Sentence the Conclusion starts (If there is one). Your Summary isn’t Complete and I do believe that it needs some editing to be Accurate. I believe that in your summary, you were a bit wordy, scattered, and confused. you seem to get the history part behind, “How to fix Social Media,” but not on the point of why the history was included. I think that quoting lines from the Article could help. You handle sources Ethically. They are your own words. You don’t have any Quotes through. For that portion, I think that you could quote something the Author or another person said in the piece concerning the growing problems that happened because of the new technology. I like how you cited your chosen Article. You didn’t cite or mention, “How to Fix Social Media.” As stated Before, your paragraphs aren’t focused (Summary). For your Response, you have a clear main idea but it is Scattered and wordy. I like your response about Cyberbullying. It is an interesting point concerning the problems with Social Media. I do feel that there is a disconnect between your summary and response though. I think there needs […]

Essay 2 – Rough Draft

(please wait until the 27th to Peer Review) (no Intro yet) In, “How to Fix Social Media,” Nicholas Carr believes that Social Media can be fixed by looking at the past. In it, The Author explains that there are two modes of Communication: Personal and Public. Personal Communication is a one-to-one system where one person speaks to another person privately. Public Communications however is a one-to-many system where one person speaks to many people Publicly. Both systems play different roles in people’s lives and historically, Many wanted to keep them separated. In the Section, “Under Lock and Key,” first Paragraph, Mr. Carr said, “Everyone saw that personal communication and public communication entailed different social norms, presented different sets of risks and benefits, and merited different legal, regulatory, and commercial responses.” Under Personal Communications, 3 rising Technologies came in: Mail, Telegram, and Telephone. In the 1700’s to 1800’s, there were laws separating the two communication devices. For many people, privity was a right between the ones carrying the messages (Operators, Mailmen) and the ones receiving them. Eventually, pre-existing laws had to be updated when examples like Operators leaking Information during the 1876 Presidential Campaign. In “Under Lock and Key” par.6, Carr said, “New technologies may change how we converse with each other, … but they don’t change our belief, grounded in a sense of individual liberty and dignity, that we should […]

Peer Review Reflection

In the past, I at times felt that my classmates’ peer reviewing my work was a little too blunt or vague. Another problem was that I didn’t know how to put my thoughts to paper well yet. From elementary to High School, we didn’t do too many peer reviews. My problem with peer reviewing others’ work in the past was that I was too blunt. When I realized that fact, I then used the “it’s fine” line. It’s reasons like these why I didn’t like them much. Despite that, it gives you an opportunity to see your peers writing structure and how you can apply it to your own. If I received a peer review on my essay, the most useful suggestion that I could use for my essay is if I received suggestions to change or flesh out something.

Rough Draft of Essay 1

Social Media had been talked about since the 2010s when it exploded in popularity. If there is one thing that people have also kept in mind is how different Generations dealt with it. Today, there are about 7 Generations that are alive today: Greatest G.(1901-24), Silent G.(1925-1945), Baby Boomers(1946-1964), Gen. X(1965-1980), Millennials(1981-1996), Gen Z (1996-2012)and Gen Alpha(2013-2025). Now if there is anything to keep in mind is that, 1 the years of a generation’s beginning or end aren’t set in stone and 2, Talks of Generations usually fall in line with U.S. History. Despite that fact, it can give you a general feel of the technology, and culture they had grown up with which impacted how they choose to deal with Social Media today. For this Essay, I will Interview 3 people from 3 different Generations. All 3 of them are my family members and I believe that they can give their perspectives on whether or not Social Media will last. Their names for this Interview are Willy, Mary, and Brittney. “First Question, How old are you?” “What is your Nationality?” Do you have Social Media? And if you do, can you list all of them and your favortite? So why do you have these apps?/What do you use them for? Why do you have social Media? Do you like using Social Media? What are your positives and Negatives of […]

Prewriting for Essay 1

Introduction- For the Introduction of my Rough draft and/or final draft, I am thinking about adding a quick background/history of Social Media. Probley before and after. If I can, I could also give a Main Question or thought that could either confirm or disprove it. The people I’m planning to Interview are members of my family. All three are in different generations: Boomer, Milleranal, and Gen Z. The thoughts on where it is going is that all three will have different Experiences concerning Social media based on the fact that: they had some experience before Social Media came in, their jobs/ careers, therir use of the platforms, their age, etc. My Hypothesis/theory is that Maturity plays a big part in how people choose to tweet or not tweet. Maturity necessarily doesn’t have to be about the person’s age but rather how knowledgeable they are of the Dangers. Another one is that Social Media may be a fad or at least will lose some popularity in the future. What I’m saying is that it may end up like the rock genre. Something big (it still is) in the 50s to 80’s then lost the cool factor in many public eyes when HipHop came into the Picture. It really depends on the 3 Interviewers’ thoughts of the future. I think that I’m going to structure my essay into these parts: Right now, […]
